Burger King Talks Mary J. Blige's Controversial Ad

The African-American community criticized Mary J. Blige for starring in a Burger King commercial that plays off racist stereotypes. However, the fast food joint said in a statement that the ad was pulled from YouTube on technical reason.

"The Mary J. Blige advertisement has been pulled due to a licensing issue. BURGER KING expects to have the Blige ads back on air soon," the company told Gawker. Meanwhile, Blige and her representative have not broken a word about the yanked ad.

In the 30-second ad, Blige can be seen singing her love of BK's new chicken snack wraps, "Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla". African-American media personalities pointed out how it is a reminder of "stereotypes of dancing, singing, and chicken-loving black people" as Black Enterprise columnist Janell Hazelwood put it.

Blige reportedly got $2 million for the endorsement.
