Miss Universe Canada Disqualified for Being Transgender Woman

The Miss Universe Canada eventually removes Jenna Talackova from the competition for being transgendered. It is one of the heated scandals in the history of the pageant because there is no mention of rules regarding sex changes and many people stood behind Talackova to prevent her from being kicked out.

According to the organization, the 23-year-old beauty queen was booted "because she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best." Talackova submitted "female" as the gender when she was born when submitting her form but later admitted to "male".

Talackova, a Vancouver resident, was born male but has identified herself as a female since the age of 4. She went through hormone therapy at 14 and went under the knife for gender reassignment at 19. She was a Top 10 finalist in the transgender Miss International Queen pageant held in Thailand in 2010 and she was selected among 65 finalists for the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition.

The national director of Miss Universe Canada Denis Davila said, "She feels like a real girl and she is a real girl. She didn't expect people to question it. She was hoping we could put her back in the competition, but the rules are very clear, and there's no way we can go back on it."

Talackova is expected to make a statement about her disqualification. Over 20,000 people have signed a petition at change.org to reverse the board's decision.
